One Year Checkup

Avery went to the doctor on Thursday for her one year checkup.  She's certainly not shrinking!  :)  Dr. Boley said she looks great (other than red ear).  No more restrictions on food.  Can turn around car seat (although the new recommendation is two years).  Wean off bottles.  Start whole milk.  Think about weaning paci.  Lots of shots.  :)  That about sums it up!

Avery is down to two bottles a day (we're weaning off of the morning one this weekend).  She's fully on table foods.  We need to continue on weaning and start real milk.  Dr. suggested doing half formula/half milk for a week or so, just so her tummy gets used to it.  I don't know what I'm going to do about that paci.  Man she loves it!  She's supposed to only get it at naps and bedtime.  We stick to that for the most part.  But I just can't imagine putting her down without it.  That one's going to be hard! 

She was so brave with her shots.  She cried of course, but was fine once I picked her up.  She's a tough little girl.

I guess she at least has a little peanut head.  :)  Off the charts for everything else.  Dr. Boley said that her rate of growth does seem to have slowed a little.  Haha. 

9 Mo. Checkup

I neglected to post Avery's stats from her 9-mo. checkup in December (12/20/12).

Height:  31"  (100%)
Weight:  26 lbs.  (100%)
HC:  45.7 cm (88%)

Once again, our "peanut" is off the charts.  :)  She weighed more than Carson did at that point - he was "only" 25 lbs. 12 oz.  ;)  They both were the same length/height though - 31" exactly.

The appointment was perfect timing - she'd been fussy the previous couple of days and had begun pulling on her ear.  We were going to get her in for an exam anyway.  Dr. Boley checked her ears and sure enough, double ear infection.  Poor baby.  :(  10 days of antibiotics.  Woo hoo.

Other than that, it was an uneventful visit.  No shots.  Dr. Boley said to work on transitioning fully to table food over the next month.  (She was just starting stage 3 foods by this point.  Along with puffs, yogurt bites, mum-mums, etc.)  Work to get off bottles by a year.  And that was about it.  :)

I can't believe that her next appointment will be ONE YEAR. 

Checkups!

Both kids had checkups recently - Avery's 6. mo. (on 9/19) and Carson's 3 year (on 9/27)!  They're both growing up way too fast!

Avery's stats:
Ht:  28.25" (100%)
Wt:  22 lbs. 11 oz.  (100%)
HC:  43 cm.  (63%)

Avery continues to be off the charts for height and weight.  :)  With a little peanut head.  :)  Dr. Boley said she looks great/healthy.  He said we can go ahead and start puffs and mum-mums, table food, etc.  I think he's pushing it a bit on the table food, etc., but I'm excited to start mum-mums and some more purees.  She'd pretty much been through most fruits and veggies by then, so time to start some of the meats and combinations.  :)  We discussed her (lack of) sleep and he said that naps would naturally elongate.  Hmph.   He doesn't know my baby very well.  :)  Anyway, she was a pro at the shots and just thankful she looks healthy. 

Carson's stats:
Ht:  40.75" (97%)
Wt:  37 lbs. (91%)

Dr. Boley said that if Carson continues on his current growth curve, he should be 6'3" or taller!  My big guy!  :)  All seems good with him so the visit was anti-climactic.  Most of the visit was spent discussing Carson's poo issues.  :(  He's getting so good with peeing on the potty, but is/was totally constipated!  Dr. recommended prune juice and miralax.  He could feel the "back-up" and said we needed to get him to go.  I just don't understand how he can hold it!  Took a few days after that to get him to go.

Anyway, my babies are getting big!

4 month checkup

Avery had her 4 mo. checkup yesterday (7/18).  She got 2 shots and another dose of the oral rotavirus vaccine.  Hopefully, that one will help knock out what's left of the virus in her system.  Thank goodness, the probiotics that we started seemed to have helped.  She still had a couple of nasty poos last week, but definitely not as often as she was having them.  Anyway, she of course cried but stopped as soon as I picked her up.  Brave girl!  I swear she glared at the nurse after.  It was pretty cute.

She did so well for Dr. Boley and he said that she looks great!  She literally is off the charts for height and weight!  The nurse had to redo her height twice to be sure.

Stats:
Height:  27.5" (100%)  Hmmmmm.....the nurse told me 27.75.  Either way, she's long/tall!
Weight:  19 lb. 8 oz.  (100%)
Head:  42 cm. (77%)

As big as Carson was, I don't think he ever hit 100%!  :)  I asked Dr. Boley (kind of jokingly, kind of not) if it was/would ever be a concern.  He said no, she was just healthy and was just going to be tall.  :)  Especially since she's breastfed, he had no concerns at all with her weight.  Carson thinned out w/out issue once he started moving around.  I love all the rolls!  I'd much rather her be chunky than scrawny.  :)

Dr. Boley said she seems right on track as far as development goes. And her head is rounding out.  :)  Just a barely noticeable flat spot still.

He said we can go ahead and start cereal and fruits/veggies whenever we want now!  Anytime between now and 6 months.  WHAT?!  :)  I knew it was coming, but how is she that old already???  I just had her!  Sigh.  I think I'll try to wait a bit longer before starting her on cereal.  But he did say to go ahead and introduce whatever we want.  I guess you no longer have to wait 3 days between new foods?  He said said to start w/ cereal and then go for it.  "Grab your camera and have fun!"  He suggested that Carson help feed her too to get involved.  Cute.  I can see poor Avery though now getting stabbed in the eye with a tiny little spoon by an over eager Carson.  LOL.  :)

2 month checkup

Avery had her 2-month checkup yesterday (5/9).  Grandma was our nurse!  She opted out of doing the shots though.  She was a bit traumatized after doing Carson's as a baby.  Grandmas shouldn't have to do that.  :)  Avery got four shots this visit - 3 needle and 1 oral!  :(  I got so nervous as the nurse was preparing and almost felt like I was going to cry.  :)  She was so brave though!  They did the oral rotovirus first.  She wasn't a fan and was crying by the end.  So she was crying before any of the needles.  She just continued crying throughout those but never got that horrible cry that she gets.  That's what I was worried about hearing.  She has this very distinct cry when she gets most upset.  She gets this look on her face like she's just so hurt and she can't believe whatever's happening.  It's truly heartbreaking.  But this was just her "normal" cry, so that was relieving to me at least.  As soon as I picked her up, she stopped and just sniffled for a bit.  So brave!!  She was asleep by the time we started wheeling around the office to see Grandma's coworkers!

Dr. Boley said that she's doing well.  She of course is a big baby.  :)  Her height and weight popped up as being outside the norm as Grandma entered them on the computer.  Dr. and I agreed that I just grow 'em big.   :)  He commented that I must have buttermilk - haha.  He said no worries though - she's perfectly healthy and, just like Carson, will thin out once she gets moving around.  :)  He checked her over and said she looks great.  Things they look for developmentally at 2 months are smiling, head control and looking around/making eye contact.  She seems to be right on track.  I was concerned with her belly button.  She definitely has an "outtie" but it looks a little weird to me.  :(  He confirmed that she has a herniated belly button and most just go away/go in by a year.  That's just the way hers healed.  I was also worried about her head getting a little flat in back and he confirmed that she's got a bit of a flat spot on her left side.  We have noticed that she favors looking left when she lies down or sleeps.  He recommended putting her to sleep on her right side.  He said she's too chubby to roll over on her stomach.  :)  I don't know that I can put her to bed like that - I think I would worry all night.  But I can put her on her side for naps at least when I can watch her and maybe prop her just a bit at night so she looks to the right.  I remember the same thing w/ Carson.  (He also recommended side sleeping, but we just made sure his head was facing the other way).  Hers seems a bit flatter though than I remember with him.  It makes me feel like a bit of a bad mommy though - like if I held her more or something, she wouldn't have it.  But I know it's fairly common and he wasn't worried at all.  He said she's far from being a "helmet kid" so hopefully it will go away. 

Avery's 2 month stats:
Height:  24.5 in.  (98.05%)
Weight:  14 lbs. 12 oz. (99.62%)   (OMG!)
Head:  40 cm. (78.24%)

At birth:
Height:  20.75 in. 
Weight:  8 lbs. 8 oz.
Head:  36 cm.

I went back and looked and Carson was 15 lbs. even at 2 months and 25 in. long.  Big kids!  :)  Just thankful that they're healthy!!

2 week checkup

Avery had her two-week checkup on 3/20.  Dr. Boley said she looked perfect!  She's gaining weight and doing well.
